Be Girl

Be Girl is an international social enterprise dedicated to improving menstrual health and promoting gender equity through design and education. Its work is grounded in the recognition of menstruation as a critical public health and human rights issue, particularly in contexts where access to appropriate products and information is limited.

The organization designs and distributes reusable menstrual products that are accessible, durable, and environmentally sustainable, enabling girls and women to manage their menstruation safely and with dignity. These products aim to reduce dependence on disposable solutions and to lower both long-term economic costs and environmental impact. In parallel, Be Girl develops menstrual education programs focused on breaking stigmas and taboos, addressing menstruation from biological, social, and cultural perspectives.

Through partnerships with non-governmental organizations, educational institutions, and public entities, Be Girl implements a comprehensive approach that combines design, knowledge, and empowerment. Its work demonstrates the potential of social design as a tool to improve quality of life, foster equal opportunities, and contribute to sustainable development.

Diana Sierra is a Colombian-American industrial designer, inventor with more than 20 patents, and a recognized social entrepreneur. She is the founder and CEO of Be Girl, a global social enterprise dedicated to transforming access to and education around menstrual health, particularly in vulnerable contexts across Africa. With over two decades of experience in industrial design, product development, and gender equity, Diana Sierra has built a career that integrates frugal engineering, accessible manufacturing, and collaboration with public policy. Under her leadership, Be Girl has distributed more than one million reusable menstrual products in over 35 countries, educated hundreds of thousands of adolescents, and contributed to the development of national menstrual health curricula adopted by several ministries of education in Africa. She currently leads the organization’s strategic expansion from Mozambique, using design as a tool to promote equity, dignity, and large-scale social impact.
